Why Leading By Example Is an Essential Quality for Good Leaders

What comes to mind when you think of a good leader? Do you picture someone who is authoritative, commanding, and driven? Or do you think of someone who is positive, supportive, and empathetic? While leadership styles can differ, there are principles for good leadership that are universal no matter who is in a position of authority. One of these principles is leading by example. Business executive Kye Giscombe learned to lead by example as he built companies such as Contact Sports, Inc., Cosmo Horizon, and Estate Law Center. Kye Giscombe explained, “If you’ve ever been under someone’s authority in the workplace, you know everything a leader does is observed and scrutinized. This is why it is important to set a good example for your colleagues. As a leader, it’s your responsibility to set the tone for your workplace and to create an environment where people can flourish.” If you come into work passionate about doing a good job and advancing your company’s vision, that energy will spread throughout your workplace. On the other hand, if you come into work disinterested and passive, you may find yourself wondering why your subordinates seem disinterested in finishing their tasks as well. Being the type of worker you want your colleagues or employees to be is one way to be a positive influence on your workplace. Kye Giscombe continued, “Of course, setting a good example is only one piece of the puzzle. You should also be genuine and authentic as you build relationships with other people in your office. If you prove yourself as a credible and trustworthy leader, people will value your input and your influence, which will lead to them following your example. “ With this in mind, good leaders should strive to be the best workers they can be, striving for improvement in all areas and setting high standards for...

Report: Americans Want Less Government Intervention

Report: Americans Want Less Government Intervention

According to a recent poll conducted by focus group research and market research company John Zogby Strategies, wanting less government intervention is not an exclusively libertarian idea. According to host Jeremy Zogby on the company’s podcast, The Zogby Report, 60% of respondents favored a strict interpretation of the Constitution over a more malleable interpretation that allows more government intervention in everyday issues. In contrast, only 21% of respondents favored more government intervention. These results are notable because John Zogby Strategies’ poll consists of many respondents with differing views, including many Democrats. The results show that some liberals and independents are not on the same page with the current administration’s interventionist stance on issues such as voting, the environment, and the ongoing pandemic. The debate over how to correctly interpret the Constitution has raged since the days of America’s Founding Fathers. The answer to this debate is closely tied to an individual’s beliefs about the role of government. If one believes that the government is only there to provide checks and balances, they will gravitate towards a stricter interpretation of the Constitution. In contrast, people who believe that the government should use its power to address social issues will prefer a looser interpretation. In any case, the Biden administration must take note of the general sentiment towards government intervention and assess how most voters will react to its policies and actions. The administration’s handling of common citizens’ concerns and issues may determine President Biden’s success if he decides to run for reelection in...
