Hair extensions are a great way to add volume, length and change your look until your hair grows to the length you desire. If you have considered using hair extension, but are unsure where to start, here is a short guide to get you started.
Technique – There are many types of hair extensions. Some of them include clip-on hair extensions, bonded hair extensions (strands are fused onto the hair) , tape-in hair extensions (small stripes of hair are attached to natural hair) and weave hair extensions (braided hair across your natural hair).
Type of hair – There are human hair extensions and synthetic hair extensions. Human hair is a lot more expensive, but will let you style your hair extensions to match your natural hair. Synthetic hair extensions, on the other hand, are much cheaper, but they don’t always match your natural hair and therefore don’t look like your own.
Hair care – Always be gentle with your hair extensions and try not to wash them too often or coat them with hair products. If you must use product, make sure it is away from your roots, to avoid your extensions slipping out. If you want to blow dry your extensions, be gentle and reduce the heat setting on your dryer. Most synthetic extensions cannot be styled, as they do not react well to heat.
Styling tips – Your hair extensions should look like your natural hair. Therefore choose extensions that look like your own hair in terms of color, texture, and thickness.
