"YES WE CAN!" Grassroots is not a dirty word and it is working right here in OUR town.
Over the last year, myself and others have come together to insist on a change the way things are run in OUR CHRISTIANSBURG. WE are meeting in coffee shops, at council meetings, at public events, on this blog site & others, and any other place that WE can get together. It seems that every week we find others who join US and support OUR cause to change the way the town has operated in the past. Its sort of funny because the "Good Ol' Boy" network is dying and they don't even see it happening before their very eyes. I find it very exciting to be part of a movement that is changing the way WE want OUR town to be in the future.
Most of the new members who are supporting us are baby boomers, college level educated, business minded, liberal, peaceful, and equality focused. However, there are quite a few older lifelong residents who have felt frustrated by the control the town officials have had in the past and they have joined us. These locals are tired of being ignored and disrespected by some town officials and employees.
All of this tells me the direction that OUR town is going and those in power better start listening or else they will be caught in the storm with no shelter.
